The life of a pirate begins
To start A Pirate's Life, first vote for the book next to the castaway. Listen to his story, then navigate through the portal that opens nearby. Look for the glowing green portal between two rocks in the ocean: there a green light will shoot into the sky and clouds will swirl above it.
Navigate through the portal and into the next area. You will be on an automatic journey across the ocean and into another portal on the other side. Once you go through this second portal, sail to the island ahead of you and weigh anchor - this is the start of Dead Man's Grotto.
dead man's grotto
After landing, head deeper into the island and past the wrecked hull of a ship. You will discover a statue with a bell next to which is a cave system. Go inside.
You will come across a fire with some skeletons and two rowboats leaning against a door. Raise your lantern and take the Flame of Souls. Now use it to light the lanterns on the rowboats. Go through the door.
The next area will have more skeletons and three lanterns to light. The first is on the right, supported by a skeleton with a seagull on its head. The next one is in the middle of the room – you need to move the arm of the skeleton to get the lantern. The last one is found by following the flowing water to a wrecked rowboat. When all three lanterns light up, the door opens.
The next area you come to will have some skeletons next to a stool and destroyed crates. When you first arrive, the ghosts seem to be celebrating. There is a waterfall to the left, go through it to find a paddle handle. Take the oar handle up the ramp in the previous room, where it can be used to fix a door handle. Fix it and use the crowbar to open the door.
In the next room, work along the right wall, being careful not to fall into the mist. If you fall, go back to the beginning and try again. Walk through the flowing water to the next area.
The next area has some wooden obstacles to overcome. Use your flashlight to turn on the lantern in the box to summon the spooky images. Now go to the anchor and turn it to lower the drawbridge.
Go over the drawbridge and use the pulley to raise a platform to get to the other side. Go to the end of the path to find another lantern to turn on. Wait for the ghosts to line up. At this point, the next drawbridge goes down.
In the next area is a pile of gold. Use the path around the perimeter to reach a series of platforms. Jump over them to get to the other side.
The next room has a ladder to the right, go up it and use your machete to cut the rope which will cause a platform to fall down. Go down the ladder and run across the platform to find a pulley and pole. Use the pulley to pull the mast towards you. Jump on it and take it to the other side. Cut the next piece of rope to drop another platform and jump off. Slide down the water slide to the next area: the sailor's grave.
In Sailor's Grave, you will spend most of your time completing the various recommendations and finding all 10 journals. As a warning, the journals must be collected before the Cursed Captain's Skull is taken to its final location on the Red Sail Ship. You can use the links below to jump to the magazine locations below:
- Revistas Tales of the Damned
- The Headless Monkey Magazines Crew
The first journals (Tales of the Damned) can be found in the main area and can be collected as you progress through the story. The Crew of the Headless Monkey journals are in a specific location that is locked unless you complete all of the side quest recommendations listed below.
Start down the mountain to a locked gate. To the left is a brazier that you need to light with your flashlight. This will unlock the door and raise the bridge.
Follow the path to the center of the area, you should start to hear the cursed captain speak. Your first task will be to save the cursed captain.
Use the stairs below the captain to get to the top of the wreck - you'll go around the back of the ship a bit. Cross the moored masts to the other side, then run up the bowsprit and towards the ship that crashed into the rock. Jump into the water and swim to the other side.
You will find a platform with a pulley system. Use the pulley to rise to the next level. This platform also includes another pulley.the ship door closed– the last bit is for later. Use the next roller to lift a pallet of boxes and barrels. Jump to the next level.
Another reel is on the right. Use them to move two platforms through the gap. You have to jump over them to get to the other side. If you fall, turn around and use the dolly system you used to get to the top.
Use the bowsprit to climb into the cage. You must use a machete to cut the rope and lower the cage to the ground. When the cage is lowered, you need to find thosecage key.
The cage key is in the tavern, which is on the side of the area. Go inside and go behind the bar to find a pulley. Use the pulley to lower the chandelier that has the key. Take the cage key and bring it to the cursed captain and open his cage.
At this point the cursed captain will instruct you to go to the lighthouse, but now is a good time to do all the other side quests related to Sailor's Tomb. So let's do that.
looking for dougie
Now you must find Dougie, the buried pirate. Go back to the tavern and to the room behind the bar, there will be a map on a table, use your flashlight to light the candles. Ghosts appear and mark a red X on the map. You must go to this place.
To find the X, go to the ship with the red sails and follow the path until you find a hole in the ground with some gold around it. Follow the trail of gold coins to a broken staircase. To get to the top, use the fallen mast.
The coins will take you over the rocks and to a shipwreck next to the tavern. There will be a hole in the ground, dig here to dig up Dougie. Turn on his flashlight to bring him to life.
Find Dougie's Treasure
Next you need to find Dougie's treasure, this starts with finding the treasure map. Go back to the center of the area where the cursed captain's cage is. On the side of the area is a wooden walkway that goes around the rocks to the front of the broken ship. He opens the ship door and goes inside to find a skeleton on a bed.
Use the pulley on the left wall to open the curtains. To the right is a door to the balcony with three torches, two next to each other and one around the corner.
Go back to bed and move the arm of the skeleton to look through the magnifying glass. You will see a red X on the map (it is outside the tavern).
Go back outside and in front of the tavern. The place to dig is a few meters from the wooden planks of the tavern. She digs up the chest and now take it to Dougie. Hold the chest and interact with Dougie to place the chest on the ground. Dougie will give you his key to open it.
Use Dougie's key on the chest to open it. Take Poor Dougie's medallion and return to the center of the area.
skeletons playing chess
The next task to complete is the A Powerful Thirst eulogy. This is accomplished by going to the two skeletons playing chess. They are at the back of the broken ship, behind the cursed captain's cage. You should also make this recommendation if you want to do Ship of Thieves and Secret of the Grave.
You can leave Dougie's locket here. Light the candle with your flashlight. Look at the movement of the skeleton, at some point the right one tries to drink but has no grog. now you mustFind Captain Bones' special recipe.
To find the special Captain Bones recipe, head back from the cursed captain's cage to the pulley lift. This can be found via a torch lit alleyway. Go through the alley, use the hoisting pulley and jump on the boxes.
You are now looking for a small hole in the side of the rock that you can jump into from the small platforms. Jump into the cave, get the bottle of grog, open the door and come back to the skeletons playing chess.
To useCaptain Bones' Special Recipeto fill the skeleton jug. After the skeleton explodes, you have to sit downPoor Dougie's Locketon the table likekaufen. Then place the cursed captain's skull on the body. If you can, take theseboat keyoff the table. This is used to unlock the ship at the top of the roller lift.
The Locked Door - Ship of Thieves
After completea strong thirst, get poor Dougie's medallion and claim the ship key, you can open the locked door you found on top of the lift pulley. This will unlock Ship of Thieves.
Take the ship key in the middle and go down the alley to the wheel lift. Use the key on the door to open it. Go inside and collect the coins on the floor. Go out the back and use the pulley on the right to turn the sails; this will allow you to use the lighthouse to light the fire pit.
When you're done, you can head over to the lighthouse.
Sailor's Tomb - The Lighthouse
If all of the above tasks are done, you're in a good place to continue to the lighthouse. Go there with the Cursed Captain and cross the bridge. Climb to the top of the lighthouse and place the cursed captain on top of the headless skeleton.
Now go up the ladder to the top and use your flashlight to light the brazier. One wheel rotates the light beam and the other tilts the light up and down.
Flip the light over and illuminate the brazier you revealed by moving the candles behind the closed ship door. This is crucial to getting the headless monkey captain's journals. Now you can safely light the other three braziers above the water. After the Cursed Captain is ready to leave, grab him and head downstairs; now you need to go and get the Headless Monkey Captain's Diaries.
Sailor's Grave - The Ship with Red Sails
After getting all the journals, you can now take the Cursed Captain to the ship with the red sails. He will open the door for you and give you access inside. Be sure to pick it up and take it with you. The final journal is also found in the captain's quarters.
Put the cursed captain's skull on his body and after his speech, take the cabin key from him. Use it to open the back door. Go past the next boat, hop on the rowboat and row straight until you see the Ferry of the Damned. Dock your rowboat at the stern, climb into the boat, and climb the ladder to reach the deck.
The Ferry of the Damned
Once on board the Ferry of the Damned, use your lantern to illuminate the Well of Doom. Once it explodes, go below deck.
Turn on the lantern next to the door to open it. In the next room, close the sarcophagus to reveal a torch, light both torches in this room to open the door. Go to the next room and go down the stairs. Go to the other side of the room and interact with the dog to get the keys. Open the door to free the prisoner. Now follow the prisoner back to the top of the ship.
Now all you have to do is defend the Shuttle of the Damned. Use the cannons to shoot the flying Dutchman. Stock up on your fruit and cannonballs with the resource barrels below decks. In some locations Ocean Crawlers board, defeat them and continue the fight. Continue until the fight is over and the boatman will speak to you again. Go through the door to return to your ship. Sail until you return to the Sea of Thieves.
Diaries of a Pirate's Life
In the first chapter, A Pirate's Life, ten journals can be found. Five of these journals were written by the cursed captain and are all in the Sailor's Tomb. The other five are from the captain of the Headless Monkey and are in a secret area.
Tales of the Damned - Diarios
The first journal is called The Haul of a Lifetime, and it's on top of a table in the tavern.
The second journal is called Dissent in the Ranks and is in the room with the skeleton on the bed on the nightstand.
The third journal is called Off the Edge of the Map and is on a table near the two skeletons playing chess.
The fourth journal is called Strange but Familiar and it's at the top of the lighthouse on a small shelf next to two skeletons.
The fifth journal is called Lights Out and is located in the captain's quarters of the cursed captain's ship on a bookshelf.
The Headless Monkey Crew - Diaries
The Headless Monkey Captain's Journals are found at the beginning of the area around the Headless Monkey Shipwreck. He must have completed all other side quests in the area to move the sails behind the locked ship door. When the candles are moved, you can use the headlight to light the brazier.
To get to the headless monkey journals, go back past the cursed captain's cage and stay on the north side. You will come across a now elevated bridge that will grant you access to a previously inaccessible location. Cross it to find a Headless Monkey Wreck. Take the skeleton key at the helm to open the door on the side of the ship.
The first diary is called Somewhere in the Caribbean and is found at the helm of the ship.
The second journal is called Raising the Mad Monkey and is in front of the wheel on the mast.
The third journal is called A Headless Monkey and is near the mast in the middle of the wreck.
The fourth journal is called Fresh Waters and is on the shelf behind the closed door.
The fifth journal is called A Fateful Pursuit and is on the table next to the map behind the locked door.
A Pirate's Life is the first chapter of the great story of the same name in Sea of Thieves. By completing the above steps in the order presented, you should complete the chapter with all the unlocked commendations and all its rewards.
